Despite the Evacuation Order being rescinded, Glacier Creek FSR will remain CLOSED under order from the Selkirk Natural Resource District. Due to hazards that remain on the road, closures could continue for an extended period of time. Access to the Macbeth Icefields, Monica Meadows, and Jumbo Pass Trail could be impacted by this closure as well. Check out www.sitesandtrailsbc.ca for the latest information.

Glacier Creek Regional Park will remain closed until further notice. Park structures were not damaged due to the wildfire, but a risk assessment must be completed before the park can reopen to the public.

The Lavina Complex includes the Argenta Creek wildfire, Lower Meadow Mountain wildfire, and Howser Ridge 3 wildfire. A complex is created when multiple wildfires are managed by a single Incident Management Team, and resources and equipment are shared between all incidents in the complex. On July 27 BCWS merged the Glacier Creek wildfire with the Argenta Creek wildfire and moving forward are referred under the Argenta Creek wildfire

The Argenta Creek wildfire was first discovered on July 18 and estimated at 19,153 hectares. The BCWS has determined the cause to be lightning. As of August 26, BCWS has categorized the Argenta Creek wildfire as “Being Held”.

Residents are returning to a community where the surrounding area was affected by a wildfire. Unseen dangers may linger when returning to their homes and properties, ranging from gas leaks and weakened foundations to danger trees, and exposed wires and power lines. Using caution can help reduce potential injuries. When in doubt, consult an expert for help.

The RDCK advises all residents to read through the information in this re-entry document on what to do when you return home after a wildfire.

Updates or changes to the Evacuation Alert will be provided via the RDCK website, Facebook and Twitter as more information becomes available.
