Evacuation Alert rescinded for Village of Slocan and a portion of the surrounding area in Electoral Area H - Portion of Evacuation Order rescinded due to Mulvey Creek wildfire

Nelson, BC:  On the recommendation of the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has rescinded the Evacuation Alert for the Village of Slocan and a portion of the surrounding area in Electoral Area H east of the Slocan River, west of Highway 6, and south to Lemon Creek. This area was impacted by the Ponderosa and Mulvey Creek wildfires, part of the Slocan Lake Complex. The Evacuation Alert rescind area includes 208 properties in the Village of Slocan, as well as 155 properties and 58 parcel identifiers (PIDs) in Electoral Area H.

A portion of the Evacuation Order on the west side of Slocan Lake in Electoral Area H has also been downgraded to an Evacuation Alert. This includes one address and five PIDs. See maps below.

Three PIDs remain on Evacuation Order on the west side of Slocan Lake and 225 addresses and 131 PIDs remain on Evacuation Alert due to the Slocan Lake Complex (Mulvey Creek, Ponderosa, Komonko Creek and Nemo Creek wildfires)

The Boil Water Advisory, originally issued on July 28, will remain in place for the Village of Slocan. If you have any questions about the advisory, contact the Village of Slocan directly.

The majority of the area was on Evacuation Order starting July 28 through August 12 when the Evacuation Order was downgraded to an Evacuation Alert.

Residents that have been taken off Evacuation Order are returning to a community where the surrounding area was affected by a wildfire. Unseen dangers may linger when returning to their homes and properties, ranging from gas leaks and weakened foundations to danger trees, and exposed wires and power lines. Using caution can help reduce potential injuries. When in doubt, consult an expert for help.

The RDCK advises all residents to read through the information in this re-entry document on what to do when you return home after a wildfire.

The Slocan Lake Complex includes Komonko Creek wildfire (merged wtih Aylwin Creek wildfire on August 3 and now referred as Komonko Creek wildfire) , Mulvey Creek wildfire, Nemo Creek wildfire, and Ponderosa wildfire. A complex is created when multiple wildfires are managed by a single Incident Management Team, and resources and equipment are shared between all incidents in the complex.
