The RDCK Board has adopted the Regional Parks, Trails and Water Access Strategy, at the October 22, 2026 Board meeting, a long-term roadmap to guide the planning, management and stewardship of the RDCK’s regional parks, trails and water access system. 

The Strategy is supported by a 10-year Implementation Plan. Adoption does not approve every action, and implementation will occur over time, subject to funding, staff capacity and future Board decisions. To read the Strategy visit engage.rdck.ca.

October 19, 2026

MOTT will be conducting geotechnical investigations on the Nelson Salmo Great Northern Trail between Svoboda and Troup from October 26 to 29.

During this time, portions of the trail will be temporarily inaccessible to the public to allow the work to take place. Closures are expected to be limited, and signage will be posted around the work area.

Starting Monday, August 24, YRB will be repairing multiple trestles between Nelson and Salmo on the Great Northern Trail. As YRB works along the rail trail, we will be sharing closure information about when specific trestles will be closed so work can be completed.

Starting October 19, the trail will be closed between Ivy road and Kapak road.

Please respect all trail signs and closures.
