Parks & Trails Updates
Trail Reopening Notice – Nelson Salmo Great Northern Trail
June 15, 2026
The Nelson Salmo Great Northern Trail between the Cottonwood Lake viewing platform and the Ivy Road Trailhead (Cottonwood to Hall Siding section) has reopened following its annual bear closure.
While the trail is now open, this area continues to be an important wildlife corridor, and reopening does not mean that bears or other wildlife are no longer active in the area.
Trail users are reminded to stay alert, make noise while travelling on the trail, keep pets on leash, and be prepared for wildlife encounters. Respect wildlife by giving animals plenty of space and never approaching them.
Galena Trail Cable Car Now Open
April 29, 2026
The cable car on the Galena Trail is now open for the summer season. Please remember to respect all posted signage and stay on designated trails to help protect the area and ensure everyone’s safety.
