Funded Training
The RDCK Funded Training Program provides free access to select certification courses for community members who are interested in working in aquatics and fitness. This program aims to support future staff recruitment and reduce financial barriers for those who want to begin a career in recreation.
Application intakes occur on a seasonal basis. The upcoming application dates are:
- Summer 2026: June 1, 2026 – June 22, 2026
- Fall 2026: August 10, 2026 – August 31, 2026
Please note: Receiving funded training does not guarantee employment with the RDCK. All roles are filled through a competitive hiring process.
The program covers RDCK-hosted courses in the following areas:
- Bronze Cross
- National Lifeguard
- Swim for Life Instructor
- CFES Aquafit Instructor
- CFES Group Fitness Instructor
- CFES Personal Trainer
- Standard First Aid*
*Only available to those approved for another funded course in the same season
Courses not hosted by the RDCK are not eligible for funding at this time
This program is open to members of the public who:
- Live in an RDCK community
- Intend to work in aquatics or fitness
- May face financial barriers to training
- Are available to work in our facilities after certification
Applicants are selected based on their relevant experience, financial need, and how well their availability matches the staffing requirements of their facility they’re applying to work at.
Applications occur on a seasonal basis. The next application intake period is June 1, 2026 – June 22, 2026.
