The RDCK apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause to residents. All depots will experience periods where no recycling collection will occur while site preparations and new infrastructure is installed. Our plans were for minimal closures, but delays are due to a mix of issues, resulting from COVID-19 and the province-wide transition of Recycle BC’s main contractor, including shortages of required infrastructure (roll off bins). We will continue to announce launch dates for the later phases as we have confirmation from our contractors and staff.

These closures only affect the recycling depot portion of each facility, all RDCK waste facilities will continue to accept garbage during its regularly scheduled hours of operation. For residents in areas experiencing service gaps we encourage holding on to recyclables until depots open or travelling to the nearest open Recycle BC depot. If that is not possible recyclables will temporarily be accepted at RDCK waste facilities as mixed waste without the double surcharge applied to loads with greater than 20% recyclables.

The Recycle BC program requires residents to sort recyclables into main categories and requires depots to be staffed and secured in an effort to reduce contamination and improve recyclability. Core depots will be accepting the full suite of Recycle BC materials, whereas the satellite depots will collect limited materials. Hours of operation and acceptable materials can be found on our website.

Here is what you need to know about recycling with Recycle BC. The RBC Depot Guide describes all materials that will be accepted and how they are to be separated.
