Early Results - 2016 Household Hazardous Waste Round-up Events
September 21, 2016
The Regional District of Central Kootenay’s Household Hazardous Waste Roundup events held in Castlegar and Creston last weekend were hugely successful, seeing 400 residents dropping off hazardous waste items like acids, fertilizers, roofing tar, and solvents. Product Stewardship groups ReGeneration and BC Used Oil also participated in the events, allowing residents the chance to drop off items like paint, oil, flammables, and batteries. The below photo of our Creston Hazardous Waste Round-Up Event shows the volume of material collected.
If you missed these round-ups do not fear - the RDCK is holding four more events in the next two weekends.

New for this year, the RDCK is excited to be partnering with local food banks and will be accepting monetary and non-perishable food donations at all events. The Castlegar Community Harvest Food Bank was thrilled to be able to collect $560 and 200 lbs. of food at our Castlegar round-up last week.
This event is meant for residential loads of hazardous waste only. Loads of industrial and commercial hazardous waste will be turned away and will need to contact Terrapure Environmental at (250) 766-0964. For a full list of items accepted at the round-ups, visit www.rdck.ca or call 1-800-268-7325.
