Free Disposal of Yard Waste in East
September 26, 2016
Residents of the RDCK’s East Subregion will be able to drop off yard and garden waste free of charge during the month of October at the following RDCK Resource Recovery Facilities:
- Creston Landfill
- Crawford Bay Transfer Station
- Boswell Transfer Station
Due to the continuing success of this program, the directors of the East Subregion have approved to offer this program on a bi-annual basis during the months of April and October.
“We have found that this program helps to improve local air quality by offering an alternative to burning yard and garden waste” says Garry Jackman, Chair of the East Subregion Resource Recovery Committee. “Overall we need to move towards better use of our organics through composting, whether burning is an option or not.”
Yard and garden waste materials that qualify for the program include grass, lawn & hedge clippings, flowers, weeds, leaves, shrubs and branches less than 15 cm in diameter. Materials that do not qualify include tree stumps, noxious weeds, soil and fruit & vegetable material.
