Public Involvement

A Public Meeting was held on June 23, 2015 to gather your comments on the Draft Crescent Valley Beach Regional Park Management Plan.  This 2.5 hectare waterfront park is on the shore of the Slocan River in the community of Crescent Valley within Area H of the  Regional District of Central Kootenay.  The Draft Management Plan includes a range of recommendations and proposals to improve parking, create gathering areas and preserve the park’s natural environment.

Background

Crescent Valley Beach Regional Park is an undeveloped waterfront park located in Area H on the foreshore of the Slocan River. The 2.5 hectare park was offered by donation in 2011 to the Regional District and became District-owned property in 2014.  The park area is used by local residents and tourists for day-use recreation including beach use, wildlife viewing, fishing, kayaking, rafting, canoeing, tubing and picnicking.  The park includes wildlife tree habitat for screech owls.

Management Plan

In September 2014, the Regional District engaged Juliet Anderton Consulting http://www.julietandertonconsulting.ca/ and Ecoscape Environmental http://ecoscapeltd.com/ to prepare the Crescent Valley Beach Regional Park Management Plan.  The management plan process has included consultation with interested organizations, approval authorities and the public.

The Park Management Plan has been drafted to define the future direction, policies, priorities and actions for implementation by the Regional District.  Short and long term implementation strategies are identified to guide the operations, development and stewardship of the park, with a 10-year focus.  The plan will be presented to the public in the spring of 2015 and considered for approval in the summer of 2015.

As part of the Park Management Plan process, the MMM Group http://mmmgrouplimited.com/ has been engaged to prepare a Park Design and Development Concept. Over the years, the number of visitors has increased and out grown the available parking and access. A park design has been created that provides for improvements such as: a public washroom building, a covered shelter, an entrance drive, traffic circulation improvements, public walkways and additional parking.
